SeaChange’s Universal MediaLibrary Gets Multichannel Broadcaster KBSN Ready for HD

February 03, 2011 -

Seoul, Korea SeaChange International (NASDAQ: SEAC), the global leader in broadcast and multi-screen video, announced the deployment of its Universal MediaLibrary (UML) at Korean multi-channel satellite television provider KBSN, a subsidiary of the national broadcaster KBS.

The SeaChange UML is an all-in-one, enterprise-class, IT-based storage solution that ensures openness and reliability.  At 9RU, the UML accommodates 72x 1TB SAS drives, ensuring high availability and real-time performance.   As KBSN is poised to switch from SD to HD programming, the operator has selected the UML as a core component to its significant upgrade.  The UML provides KBSN with greater storage capabilities to accommodate HD content files.

The new UML storage system expands KBSN’s current playout platform through integration with SeaChange’s Broadcast MediaLibrary (BML) 24000ex.  Integration and synchronization of the UML with the BML will be automated via the SeaChange MediaGateway (SMG) Pro software, which manages transfers between the different generations of SeaChange servers and storage, third-party production systems, Media Asset Management and archive systems.

“To KBSN, a reliable storage solution as a central part of its tapeless workflow represents stable operations,” said Shin Geun-Cheol, Technical Director of KBSN.  “The massive storage capacity of the UML assures us that KBSN is ready to go for HD.  Its fast throughput, compatibility with SeaChange and third-party systems, and RAID-6 reliability assures our subscribers that we can deliver high quality content, whenever they need it, where they need it.”

“The KBSN infrastructure featuring SeaChange solutions is a demonstration of how far SeaChange has gone in the broadcast industry,” said Stephane Jauroyou, Vice President for Broadcast Sales, SeaChange International.  “Today, SeaChange offers IT-based solutions for an end-to-end broadcast workflow: from content capture, production, transmission, to monetization.”
