SeaChange Eases Move To Tapeless Broadcast Workflows with MSV 1000 Standalone Media Server

Foundation for the Transition to Tapeless is Economized with a Low-Profile Ingest and Playout Server
April 20, 2009 -
ACTON, Mass. - SeaChange International (NASDAQ: SEAC), a leading global supplier of HD and SD broadcast playout and workflow solutions, is making it easier and more cost-effective for television broadcasters to build tapeless workflows with the introduction of the MediaServer 1000 (MSV 1000) standalone multichannel ingest and playout server.  Packing the renowned reliability of its storage servers with the flexibility of its software-based codecs into a 2 RU footprint, SeaChange’s MSV 1000 lowers the point of entry for broadcasters to begin realizing the efficiencies and power of file-based workflows.

The MSV 1000 provides up to 10 channels of HD ingest and playout or 12 channels of SD ingest and playout in configurations that include 5TB of RAID6-protected SATA or 1.5TB of RAID5-protected flash memory storage.  The integrated software codecs can natively support a broad range of popular tapeless formats, including Avid DNxHD, DV100, IMX and MPEG2.

"The introduction of the MSV 1000 is yet another example of SeaChange’s longstanding commitment to helping broadcasters of all sizes establish extensible foundations upon which to create SD and HD tapeless workflows," said Stephane Jauroyou, director of product marketing for broadcast, SeaChange.  "The MSV 1000 goes well beyond simply laying the tapeless foundation by scaling seamlessly with SeaChange’s existing Broadcast MediaLibrary (BML) transmission storage server and DataDirect Networks’ (DDN) S2A production storage platforms, allowing users to expand into large multichannel delivery platforms while continuing to leverage their initial investment."

The MSV 1000’s "stream-through" functionality means the unit operates not only as a standalone system for simple ingest and playout, but can also be combined with SeaChange’s BML and DDN’s S2A to expand into a shared storage system without the need for file transfers.  In such a case, the MSV 1000’s built-in codecs complement the greater storage capacity of the BML or DDN system.

In addition, the versatile MSV 1000 can also operate in a disaster recovery or business continuity role, serving as an emergency backup to primary ingest and playout systems in a broadcast operation.

Introduced this week at NAB2009, SeaChange is taking orders immediately for the MSV 1000.

SeaChange’s range of proven content storage, streaming and management solutions, including the new MSV 1000, the FML200 flash memory-based ingest and play-to-air server, and its latest Broadcast MediaLibrary/Broadcast MediaClient play-to-air storage system and SD/HD software codecs, will be on display during NAB2009, April 20-23 in Las Vegas in SeaChange’s booth SU12009.  Demonstrations will underscore why broadcasters, cable and telcos of all sizes in all parts of the world continue to make SeaChange their digital video foundation.
