LAS VEGAS - SeaChange International (NASDAQ: SEAC), a leading global supplier of HD and SD broadcast playout and workflow solutions, announced today at the 2009 PBS Technology Conference that
WFSU/WFSG-TV has expanded its existing SeaChange digital video platform to include high-definition broadcasting capabilities. The Florida-based public broadcaster joins the growing ranks of PBS affiliates around the country that are on-air in HD using SeaChange systems.
Serving nearly half a million households in northwest Florida, southwest Georgia, and southeast Alabama from its facilities on the campus of Florida State University, WFSU/WFSG has been on air with SeaChange since it first moved to a digital platform in 2003. The PBS affiliate is now on air in HD using SeaChange’s
Broadcast MediaLibrary/MediaClient (BML/MCL) play-to-air storage system and SD/HD software codecs. Designed to support a wide range of automation systems, the SeaChange platform at WFSU/WFSG is working in conjunction with
MicroFirst.
"Our experience with SeaChange has been extremely positive since WFSU/WFSG first moved to a digital platform with our original Broadcast MediaCluster nearly six years ago," said Barry Fitzpatrick, director of engineering, WFSU/WFSG. "The ease by which we could move to high-definition broadcasting coupled with the high degree of reliability that we have become accustomed helped make the decision to select the BML/MCL platform a simple one."
"SeaChange is proud to maintain a longstanding relationship with PBS operators around the country," said Chris West, vice president of worldwide broadcast sales, SeaChange. "Our systems are helping more than 40 PBS affiliates provide enriching programming and invaluable services to their communities; something that WFSU/WFSG has now been doing for nearly 50 years."
SeaChange’s range of proven content storage, streaming and management solutions, including the FML200 flash memory-based ingest and play-to-air server, and its latest Broadcast MediaLibrary/Broadcast MediaClient platform, will be on display during the
PBS Technology Conference, April 15-18 at Caesar’s Palace; and
NAB2009, April 20-23 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in SeaChange’s booth SU12009. Demonstrations will underscore why broadcasters of all sizes in all parts of the world continue to make the BML/MCL their digital video foundation.
SeaChange’s vice president of product marketing, Alan Hoff, will address PBS Tech Conference attendees on Friday, April 17, from 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. in a presentation focusing on building workflows to support content delivery to multiple screens.
