SeaChange Universal MediaLibrary Storage Wins Award at Storage Visions 2012

January 16, 2012 -
LAS VEGAS - SeaChange International won the 2012 Visionary Product Award for Professional Media and Entertainment Storage at the Eleventh Annual Storage Visions Conference (partner program to the 2012 International CES) held at the Riviera Hotel Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 8, 2012. The Visionary Product awards recognize companies advancing the state of the art in storage technologies used in consumer electronics, the media and entertainment industries, and visionary products for the digital content value chain. The honor was presented to SeaChange for the SeaChange Universal MediaLibrary (UML), the high-availability storage solution that offers high performance, high capacity, scalability, and flexible NAS and SAN connectivity for direct ingest, edit-in-place, archive, and play-to-air.

The Universal MediaLibrary is the only storage solution in the industry that provides simultaneous NAS and SAN access. Files on the UML can be accessed via iSCSI, CIFS, NFS, and FTP without needing to reconfigure the system or set up gateways.  As the UML supports both NAS and SAN in a single file system, a company doesn’t need to set up islands of storage systems for equipment requiring different types of connections. All media assets may be managed and accessed in a single global namespace.

The Universal MediaLibrary employs a media-centric file layout that allows space efficiency for small files and high-streaming performance for large media files. It performs dynamic online expansion in less than 10 seconds, scaling both capacity (from up to 216TB in a 5RU storage matrix to 144PB in a grid architecture) and performance (up to 34,000Gbps in a grid) simply by adding UML “bricks” to the grid. It has achieved the fastest real-time throughput of 17Gbps per brick.

SeaChange International Vice President Bang Chang said, “We appreciate the recognition given by Storage Visions to the Universal MediaLibrary. The UML is unique in its ability to provide simultaneous NAS and SAN access to the same files and in its impact on eliminating NAS and SAN silos, reducing costs and simplifying workflows. The Universal MediaLibrary embodies a truly visionary product for today’s file-based media workflows.”
