SeaChange opened IBC 2009 last Friday by winning the CSI Award for best content on demand delivery solution for its role in Virgin Media's dynamic VOD advertising program. On Sunday, Virgin Media and SeaChange were honored as an IBC Innovation Award finalist in the content delivery category. Virgin Media is using SeaChange's AdPulse on demand advertising system to dynamically insert commercials in real time into VOD content, ensuring that the advertising is up to date, and specific to the time of day, geographic region of the consumer and the content of the program. Feedback from the system also allows the operator to better understand the impact of on-demand advertising on viewer behaviour.

Virgin Media’s use of SeaChange’s AdPulse On Demand dynamic VOD advertising platform has been shortlisted by IBC for a prestigious IBC 2009 Innovation Award. Virgin Media used AdPulse insertion technology to insert ads before and after its on-demand content in real time, allowing campaigns to be kept up-to-date and specific to time of day or region. Virgin matched ads to program genres, testing a range of ad lengths, including single 30 second pre-rolls, consecutive pre-rolls and end rolls, and update campaigns weekly. The number of ads was capped and a limit was placed on the volume of programs that had ads placed around them.
“Because of their special nature, the IBC Innovation Awards have firmly established themselves as ‘the ones to win’,” said chair of the judges Michael Lumley. “The international judging panel have had the demanding job of coming up with a shortlist from an excellent range of quality entries. We have selected the most outstanding submissions, displaying innovative applications of technology.”
The SeaChange/Virgin Media entry is one of only three finalists in the Content Delivery category.
IBC will present its Innovation Awards on September 13 as part of a ceremony during the IBC Conference and Exposition in Amsterdam.
